Christina Smith, LISW-CP-S

Social Worker

Do you feel that you’re not the person you’re supposed to be or that you’ve veered off the path you thought you’d be on? Or is your child/teen not taking advantage of the foundation you provided them?

I genuinely love working with adolescents and young adults who are struggling with life decisions so they can discover their full potential and increase their self-worth. I also help those who foresaw their life turning out differently and want to find the strength to change directions.

In addition, I help family systems resolve conflicts by providing tools to build happiness and peace within your family.

Do you often worry about how others perceive you, that you’re not good enough, or fear that you’re going to make the wrong decision?

Anxiety can make us feel paralyzed, self-conscience, and fearful of making the wrong choice.  Decisions should not always be evaluated by what is right and wrong, but by what is helpful and hurtful to you.

I will help you recognize your strengths, build confidence in yourself, and give you the courage to take on life’s challenges.  I will support you in learning healthy ways to manage stressors while continuing to move forward in your life.

Do you struggle to communicate your feelings in ways that are healthy and effective?

I can assist you in identifying what you need in order to feel safe, accepted, and supported and teach you how to express those needs effectively.  Together we will explore how to put yourself first which does not equate to being selfish. I will help you to manage your emotions, increase your assertiveness, and set necessary boundaries to develop healthy relationships.

I completed my Masters in Social Work at the University of Maryland in 2010 and have worked in both clinical settings and the public school system teaching children and adolescents behavioral techniques, mindfulness, coping skills, social/relational skills, and organizational skills to help individuals thrive.  I am experienced in treating adults and youth of all ages, backgrounds, and diagnosis. My passion has always been in working with female adolescents and adults, however, if you feel I am the right provider for you, I can work with individuals aged 10 and older on any spectrum of gender identity.

I am well-versed in many therapies and interventions, but generally gravitate towards Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Trauma- Focused CBT.  These models allow individuals to understand how their thought patterns impact their feelings and behaviors.  Learning how to re-process information and reframe negative thoughts, can increase one’s self-esteem and confidence to handle life’s challenges.  I believe in empowering clients to set their own goals in life and supporting them through the process.

Past clients describe me as easy to talk to and empathetic with the right amount of motivation and direction to help them overcome barriers holding them back.

In addition to clients who are private pay, I am in-network with the following insurance:

  • Aetna
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield (all plans)
  • Cigna
  • Medicare

PREVIOUS CLIENT’S FEEDBACK

With their permission, here are some experiences of former clients…

My teen was nervous as this was her first counseling appointment, but Christina put her at ease and my daughter actually enjoyed their convo and is comfortable about the next visit. Thank you!

I was fearful that I wouldn’t find the right counselor in my first few sessions, but Christina is a perfect fit.  I am so thankful I found Charleston Counseling Center.

I have been putting off seeing a counselor for a long time. After having seen Christina for just one session, I am wishing I had started this sooner!
