Ms. Bixler has only met with our son about four times, but she meets with him on his emotional level, and makes her sessions engaging and interactive. We are happy!
Catherine Bixler, LPC-A
Are you struggling to communicate with your partner or family member?
Relationships are tricky and can be hard to navigate during stressful times. My approach to couples and family counseling involves a communication blueprint that works to strengthen the relationship while empowering the individual. I use Gottman Therapy methods to guide partners and family members on effective communication which is rooted in the Sound Relationship House theory. My goal is to have you feeling more connected with each other and equipped with the tools to solve any future dilemmas.
Are you or your child having difficulty adjusting to a new environment or life stressor?
Life is a roller-coaster, and sometimes you can be left feeling confused and queasy during the ride. My experience as a military spouse has provided me with the understanding needed to sympathize with your struggles. I have developed tools of my own for adjusting to new situations and adapting to unfamiliar life stressors.
Have you suffered a major loss?
The cycle of grief can be experienced differently by every individual. No matter what stage of grief you are in whether it be denial, anger, bargaining, depression, or acceptance, it is a personal journey. My approach guides individuals and families through this cycle in a way that allows progression in a healthy and accepting manner.
My overall approach to therapy works to empower the individual by looking for solutions to problems. Counseling sessions are customized to the individual, couple, or family to maximize the positive impact of the therapeutic process. The therapeutic relationship is a collaborative effort to achieve mental wellness. Past clients would describe me as easy to talk to, funny, non-judgmental, and empathetic. I want you to feel comfortable in session, and will constantly work to ensure the session fosters mental healing.
I received my undergraduate degree in psychology from Walden University, and went on to receive my Master of Science in Marriage, Couples, and Family Counseling from Walden University as well. I am a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC). I have also completed Level 1 of Gottman Method Therapy for couples training.
