Angie Engelke, LPC

Licensed Professional Counselor

Do you want to feel confident that you are using the most effective methods to discipline your child?

In my work with children and their families, my goal is to help you be the parent you want to be. With parenting techniques and approaches always changing, it can be difficult to feel confident in what to do. As a parent myself, I understand how difficult and draining it can be to parent well. We will work together to implement effective strategies that work for you and your child.

Are one child’s difficult behaviors putting a strain on your entire family and/or your marriage?

As a Parent Child Interaction Therapist (PCIT), I have worked with families in challenging situations for over 10 years. PCIT, which is a specialized treatment model that focuses on helping parents/caregivers reduce a wide array of challenging behaviors, is evidence-based, and the gold standard of effective treatments for children ages 2-7.

Do you have an adolescent/teenager who has become distant, depressed, or anxious?

In my work with teens, I use an eclectic approach, often combining elements of several evidence-based treatments. During sessions, we will have open discussions about the treatments I suggest, and I will always follow the client’s lead. I am trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and often use this approach to treat anxiety, depression, and help clients take values-based action steps towards positive growth.

I have experience working with children (2+), adolescents, and adults. I have worked with trauma victims, been a direct care provider and case manager in child group home settings, provided family and individual counseling for families and teens through the Department of Juvenile Justice, and have provided in-home family therapy for at-risk youth. In addition to this, I have also been a case manager for the Disabilities Board of SC, received training through Dee Norton Lowcountry Children’s Center, and a contracted counselor for the Charleston County School District.

I specialize in the following areas:

  • Children (2+) Counseling
  • Family Counseling
  • Anxiety/Depression
  • Relationship Issues
  • Life Transitions

I am trained in and use elements from the following approaches:

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Art Therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

PREVIOUS CLIENTS’ FEEDBACK

With their permission, here are some experiences of former clients…

I LOVE Angie’s insight and experience.  I recommend her to everyone, therapists of her caliber are very rare.  We have seen different therapists for 5 years now, and she is the best one I have ever come across!

Angie helped my son and I to better understand each other’s needs and expectations. By doing so our relationship was strengthened. Our family absolutely benefited from our time together.

We went through PCIT therapy with Angie in the past year and had a wonderful experience. Angie was professional, knowledgeable, and very personable. She expertly walked us through the steps of the PCIT program and helped us to overcome any challenges along the way. Angie even volunteered to work with our elementary school and spent a lot of time coordinating with teachers and counselors to develop an educational plan that supported our child. We had very good results with the therapy and would recommend her to anyone struggling with their child’s behavior.
